Comment on Photographs in Starbucks – Yes Or No? by Jay

Well, my post had more to do with Starbucks not articulating a coherent policy on whether or not people are allowed to take photographs inside their stores. My comment about social media had more to do with them supposedly being one of the companies that understands how it all works. If I see something interesting I like to take a picture of it. Starbucks should make it clear whether or not I can do that in their stores.

I don't disagree with you entirely about social media. I've said that it can be empowering but many people can become a slave to it as well.

As for your thoughts on Twitter, I am going to have to strongly disagree with your assessment of what it is like and what people can get from it. It's far more useful than Facebook and I've made real friends using it. See my last post regarding that.

Thanks for the comment!

Call me old fashioned, but who cares?

Heck, I enjoy facebook and linkedin as much as the next guy, not necessarily in that order -- but my "who cares?" is more a broad commentary on the hypocritical social networking craze where individuals become increasingly introverted and dependent on technology to fulfill their needs for socializing versus actual face- or at least telephone-time to catch up with their "closest" friends. And soon Skype may eliminate that need altogether, heaven forbid!

I don't do Twitter as (from what I've seen) it's even more self-serving than the aforementioned sites. Does this world seriously hinge on incessant distraction for such mundane updates from people they hardly know, if at all, announcing every few minutes they're bored, hungry, reading so-and-so's latest self-serving blog, "working" (?! psh! hardly!!) or otherwise?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the leader in this downward spiral is 4square. "Look where I am, world!" It's not bad enough you'll share a picture and document your every movement from your destination, now you can give us a map, too? Thanks for the heads up, I may go put an end to it personally.

That's just the 2 cents I could spare. Real work to get back to. Ha ha.

Jay, I just wanted you to know that I admire your work. I always had a passion for photography. When I was a young girl in HS, I was always in front of the camera and my love for photography became more apparent when my cousin started taking photo classes in college. I no longer became his "subject" or "model" but his "wannabe" assistant. I got my very first SRL camera when I had Sarah, my daughter. Had so much fun with it and taking pics of the kids. Just wanted you to know that when I look at your pictures all I could do is think of the photography I see in National Geographic magazines. You are avery talented man! Keep up the great work!!
